Representation in European and International Fora

The Press and Information Office represents the Republic of Cyprus in European and international fora as follows:

+ TRANSLATION CENTRE FOR THE BODIES OF THE EU

The Translation Centre provides translation services for EU agencies and bodies around Europe and works together with the EU’s other translation services. It provides language services to the EU’s specialized agencies and bodies, especially: translation, revision, editing, terminology work, video subtitling.

The Press and Information Office (Department of the Council for the Registration of Sworn Translators), representing the Republic of Cyprus, participates as a full Member of the Management Board in the Translation Centre’s meetings which take place at least once a year at the Centre’s headquarters in Luxembourg.  

+ EUROPEAN LANGUAGE RESEARCH COORDINATION - CONNECTING EUROPE FACILITIES

Manages, maintains and coordinates the relevant language resources in all official languages of the EU and Connecting Europe Facilities (CEF) associated countries. These activities will help to improve the quality, coverage and performance of automated translation solutions in the context of current and future CEF digital services.

The PIO as the National Anchor Point of the Republic of Cyprus at the ELRC has contributed significantly to the collection of language resources and the development of the Automated Translation mechanism eTranslation. With the PIO’s contribution to the creation of the first White Paper in 2019 and the second in 2022, Cyprus has played an important part in promoting Language Equality in multicultural Europe in the Digital Age. The PIO participates in the meetings of the Language Resource Board twice a year in a different city within the EU.
