Participation of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the 2nd Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region Conference
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Minas A Hadjimichael, will travel to Brussels on Tuesday, April 24, to represent the Republic of Cyprus in the 2nd "Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region" Conference, which takes place on 24-25 April 2018.
The Conference is jointly organized by the United Nations and the European Union, with a view to securing additional grants and loans to tackle the humanitarian consequences of the Syrian crisis, through, inter alia, humanitarian projects within Syria and in countries hosting Syrian refugees such as Jordan and Lebanon.
The Republic of Cyprus, on the basis of its obligations and commitments in the framework of the EU Syrian Refugees Facility, will contribute €609 668 for 2018-2019 to programmes in Jordan and Lebanon. Cyprus will make an additional voluntary pledge for the same period, for humanitarian activities of the UN in Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who is expected to address the Conference, will return to Cyprus on Thursday 26 April.
