The new High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus to Solomon Islands, Mrs Martha A. Mavrommatis, has presented her Letters of Credence to HE Sir Frank Ofagioro Kabui, GCMG, CSI, OBE Governor-General of Solomon Islands.

During the accreditation ceremony, High Commissioner Mavrommatis conveyed President Nicos Anastasiades greetings and wishes for progress and well-being to H.E the Governor-General, the Government and the people of Solomon Islands.

The High Commissioner referred to the bilateral relations between Cyprus and Solomon Islands, as well as to a result driven multilateral cooperation, both within the EU – Solomon Islands and the Commonwealth coordination frameworks. With regards to the Cyprus problem, the High Commissioner expressed the gratitude of the Republic of Cyprus for the principled stance of Solomon Islands on finding a just and viable solution to the Cyprus problem.

H.E the Governor-General reciprocated his personal wishes to President Anastasiades and reiterated his country’s support for resolving the Cyprus problem. Moreover, the Governor General acknowledged the importance of EU development assistance towards his country, along with the important role Cyprus can play in Commonwealth as a link between the latter and the EU.

In concluding, the Governor-General extended his wishes to H.E Mrs Mavrommatis for success in her assignment and offered assistance in carrying out her duties.
