Events celebrating International Museum Day & European Night of Museums 2018

The Department of Antiquities, Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, announces various events with free entry, which will take place in its Museums within the framework of the 2018 celebrations for International Museum Day (18th May) and the European Night of Museums (19th May). In addition, on Friday 18th May 2018, all Museums of the Department of Antiquities will have free entry. A list of all Museums and their opening hours, as well as all the events organized can be found on the Department of Antiquities’ website, www.mcw.gov.cy/da. All events will also be posted on the Department of Antiquities’ social media pages (facebook: DEPARTMENTOFANTIQUITIES and Instagram: departmentofantiquities_cyprus).

The theme of this year’s International Museum Day is “Hyperconnected Museums: New approaches, new publics”. Amongst others, it refers to the central role that Museums play in the global network of physical and virtual connections that are each year becoming more complex, diverse and integrated. One of the main aims of Museums today is to reach out to a wider range of publics and to connect with other museums and institutions. Within this framework, this years’ events at the Museums of the Department of Antiquities are the result of the close and fruitful collaborations that have developed over the years between Museums and educational institutions (i.e. museum education programs, Technical School activities), the contemporary art community (i.e. performances, exhibitions, concerts) and local communities (joint organization of events).
