Foreign Trade Statistics, March 2021 (final data) and April 2021 (provisional data)

The Statistical Service of Cyprus announces the release of final data on the foreign trade of Cyprus for March 2021 and of provisional data for April 2021. 

FOREIGN TRADE STATISTICS, MARCH 2021 

The main developments in the foreign trade of Cyprus in March 2021 were: 

(a)           Total imports of goods (from EU Member States and from third countries) amounted to €590,0 mn in March 2021 as compared to €621,9 mn in March 2020, recording a decrease of 5,1%.

(b)           Exports of domestically produced products, including stores and provisions, in March 2021 were €121,6 mn as compared to €91,6 mn in March 2020, recording an increase of 32,8%. Domestic exports of industrial products in March 2021 were €111,0 mn compared to €82,1 mn in March 2020, whilst domestic exports of agricultural products in March 2021 were €9,5 mn compared to €7,8 mn in March 2020.

(c)            Exports of foreign products, including stores and provisions, in March 2021 were €100,7 mn as compared to €204,1 mn in March 2020, recording a decrease of 50,7%.

The data are included in the monthly electronic publication “Intra & Extra EU Trade Statistics (Summarised Data)” for March 2021, which is available free of charge from the website of the Statistical Service, under the section “Publications” in the statistical theme Foreign Trade.

FOREIGN TRADE STATISTICS, APRIL 2021

On the basis of provisional data, the main developments in the foreign trade of Cyprus in April 2021 can be summarized as follows:

(a)                 Total imports of goods were €652,1 mn as compared to €410,7 mn in April 2020, recording an increase of 58,8%. Imports from other EU Member States in April 2021 were €452,2 mn and from third countries €199,9 mn, compared to €266,7 mn and €144,0 mn respectively in April 2020. Imports in April 2021 include the transfer of economic ownership of mobile transport equipment (vessels and aircrafts), with total value of €48,9 mn as compared to €19,8 mn in April 2020.

(b)                  Total exports of goods in April 2021 were €241,2 mn as compared to €252,9 mn in April 2020, recording a decrease of 4,6%. Exports to other EU Member States in April 2021 were €81,1 mn and to third countries €160,1 mn, compared to €64,4 mn and €188,5 mn respectively in April 2020. Exports in April 2021 include the transfer of economic ownership of mobile transport equipment (vessels), with total value of €43,2 mn as compared to €133,3 mn in April 2020.

(c)                   Total imports of goods (from EU Member States and from third countries) in January – April 2021 amounted to €2.568,2 mn as compared to €2.485,6 mn in January – April 2020, recording an increase of 3,3%. Total exports of goods (to EU Member States and to third countries) in January – April 2021 were €796,5 mn compared to €987,5 mn in January – April 2020, registering a decrease of 19,3%. The trade deficit was €1.771,7 mn in January – April 2021 compared to €1.498,1 mn in the corresponding period of 2020.
