Foreign Trade Statistics, April 2021 (final data) and May 2021 (provisional data)

The Statistical Service of Cyprus announces the release of final data on the foreign trade of Cyprus for April 2021 and of provisional data for May 2021.

FOREIGN TRADE STATISTICS, APRIL 2021

The main developments in the foreign trade of Cyprus in April 2021 were:

(a) Total imports of goods (from EU Member States and from third countries) amounted to €685,2 mn in April 2021 as compared to €410,7 mn in April 2020, recording an increase of 66,8%.

(b) Exports of domestically produced products, including stores and provisions, in April 2021 were €146,9 mn as compared to €90,3 mn in April 2020, recording an increase of 62,7%. Domestic exports of industrial products in April 2021 were €135,9 mn compared to €77,2 mn in April 2020, whilst domestic exports of agricultural products in April 2021 were €9,7 mn compared to €11,4 mn in April 2020.

(c) Exports of foreign products, including stores and provisions, in April 2021 were €95,3 mn as compared to €162,6 mn in April 2020, recording a decrease of 41,4%.

The data are included in the monthly electronic publication “Intra & Extra EU Trade Statistics (Summarised Data)” for April 2021, which is available free of charge from the website of the Statistical Service, under the section “Publications” in the statistical theme Foreign Trade.

FOREIGN TRADE STATISTICS, MAY 2021

On the basis of provisional data, the main developments in the foreign trade of Cyprus in May 2021 can be summarized as follows:

(a) Total imports of goods were €654,1 mn as compared to €470,9 mn in May 2020, recording an increase of 38,9%. Imports from other EU Member States in May 2021 were €469,8 mn and from third countries €184,4 mn, compared to €304,8 mn and €166,1 mn respectively in May 2020. Imports in May 2021 include the transfer of economic ownership of mobile transport equipment (vessels), with total value of €78,8 mn as compared to €12,3 mn in May 2020.

(b) Total exports of goods in May 2021 were €226,2 mn as compared to €278,3 mn in May 2020, recording a decrease of 18,7%. Exports to other EU Member States in May 2021 were €69,5 mn and to third countries €156,7 mn, compared to €70,5 mn and €207,7 mn respectively in May 2020. Exports in May 2021 include the transfer of economic ownership of mobile transport equipment (vessels), with total value of €21,0 mn as compared to €110,8 mn in May 2020.

Total imports of goods (from EU Member States and from third countries) in January – May 2021 amounted to €3.254,5 mn as compared to €2.956,5 mn in January – May 2020, recording an increase of 10,1%. Total exports of goods (to EU Member States and to third countries) in January – May 2021 were €1.023,1 mn compared to €1.265,8 mn in January – May 2020, registering a decrease of 19,2%. The trade deficit was €2.231,4 mn in January – May 2021 compared to €1.690,7 mn in the corresponding period of 2020.
