Foreign Trade Statistics

May 2021 (final data) and June 2021 (provisional data)

The Statistical Service of Cyprus announces the release of final data on the foreign trade of Cyprus for May 2021 and of provisional data for June 2021.

FOREIGNTRADESTATISTICS, MAY 2021

The main developments in the foreign trade of Cyprus in May 2021 were:

(a)           Total imports of goods (from EU Member States and from third countries) amounted to €656,3 mn in May 2021 as compared to €470,9 mn in May 2020, recording an increase of 39,4%.

(b)           Exports of domestically produced products, including stores and provisions, in May 2021 were €125,5 mn as compared to €104,8 mn in May 2020, recording an increase of 19,8%. Domestic exports of industrial products in May 2021 were €111,2 mn compared to €92,7 mn in May 2020, whilst domestic exports of agricultural products in May 2021 were €12,4 mn compared to €10,6 mn in May 2020.

(c)            Exports of foreign products, including stores and provisions, in May 2021 were €100,4 mn as compared to €173,5 mn in May 2020, recording a decrease of 42,1%.

The data are included in the monthly electronic publication “Intra & Extra EU Trade Statistics (Summarised Data)” for May 2021, which is available free of charge from the website of the Statistical Service, under the section “Publications” in the statistical theme Foreign Trade.

 

FOREIGNTRADESTATISTICS, JUNE 2021

On the basis of provisional data, the main developments in the foreign trade of Cyprus in June 2021 can be summarized as follows:

(a)                 Total imports of goods were €718,2 mn as compared to €668,9 mn in June 2020, recording an increase of 7,4%. Imports from other EU Member States in June 2021 were €475,0 mn and from third countries €243,1 mn, compared to €390,2 mn and €278,7 mn respectively in June 2020. Imports in June 2021 include the transfer of economic ownership of mobile transport equipment (vessels and aircrafts), with total value of €80,2 mn as compared to €99,7 mn in June 2020.

(b)                 Total exports of goods in June 2021 were €294,9 mn as compared to €275,9 mn in June 2020, recording an increase of 6,9%. Exports to other EU Member States in June 2021 were €82,2 mn and to third countries €212,7 mn, compared to €122,9 mn and €153,0 mn respectively in June 2020. Exports in June 2021 include the transfer of economic ownership of mobile transport equipment (vessels), with total value of €80,5 mn as compared to €87,2 mn in June 2020.

(c)            Total imports of goods (from EU Member States and from third countries) in January – June 2021 amounted to €3.975,1 mn as compared to €3.625,4 mn in January – June 2020, recording an increase of 9,6%. Total exports of goods (to EU Member States and to third countries) in January – June 2021 were €1.317,7 mn compared to €1.541,7 mn in January – June 2020, registering a decrease of 14,5%. The trade deficit was €2.657,4 mn in January – June 2021 compared to €2.083,8 mn in the corresponding period of 2020.
