Results of the survey on industrial production 2016
According to the results of the survey on Industrial Production 2016, employment in the broad industrial sector increased in 2016 by 4,5% to 33,5 thousand compared to 32,1 thousand in 2015. In manufacturing employment reached 29,3 thousand, in mining and quarrying 0,4 thousand, in electricity supply 2,1 thousand and in water supply, sewerage and waste management 1,7 thousand persons.
In the whole of the industrial sector, production value at current prices recorded an increase of 2,6% to €3.691,7 million in 2016 compared to €3.599,4 million in 2015. In manufacturing, production value increased by 6,9% to €2.745,8 million and in water supply, sewerage and waste management by 4,6% to €284,6 million. On the other hand, value of production decreased in electricity supply by 7,3% to €611,5 million and in mining and quarrying by 49,4% to €49,8 million.
Value added at current prices rose by 5,4% in the total of industry and reached €1.448,3 million in 2016 compared to €1.374,4 million in 2015. In manufacturing, value added increased by 8,3% to €985,2 million, in electricity supply by 0,8% to €299,4 million and in water supply, sewerage and waste management by 3,9% to €144,2 million. On the contrary, in mining and quarrying value added decreased by 32,9% to €19,4 million.
METHODOLOGICAL INFORMATION
Definitions
Employment – The average number of all persons employed during the year, in full time equivalent units.
Production value – The value of goods produced, services rendered to others, net receipts from the sale of goods sold in the same condition as purchased, other income and changes in the value of work-in-progress at the end of the year.
Value added – Derived by deducting from the production value the aggregate costs of all materials used, other production expenses, administrative expenses and rents paid for buildings and machinery.
Coverage and collection of data
The Industrial Production Survey covers a sample of around 1.500 enterprises with main activity falling under sections B, C, D, and E of the classification system of economic activities NACE Rev. 2 of the European Union.
The collection of data from the Statistical Service is done by personal interview with the use of a special questionnaire.
