Written statement by the Director of the Press Office of the President of the Republic, Mr Andreas Iosif

The schedule of the President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, for the coming period is quite full.

The President will hold a series of meetings next week that are particularly important for Cyprus’ diplomatic relations and the role our country plays as a member of the European Union, as well as in the wider Eastern Mediterranean region.

On Monday, 4th April, President Anastasiades will address the swearing-in ceremony of the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority`s new member, Mr Neofytos Hadjigeorgiou, at the Presidential Palace.
 
The President of the Republic will pay an official visit to Montenegro from 5th-6th April, where he will meet with President Milo Đukanović and the two countries will sign a memorandum of cooperation between Cyprus and Montenegro in the shipping sector. During his meetings, President Anastasiades will refer to the friendly relations between the two countries and will underline the need to strengthen bilateral ties in the fields of economy and tourism. He will also inform his interlocutors on the latest developments on the Cyprus issue, his proposal on the Confidence Building Measures as well as on the need to resolve the Cyprus problem on the basis of the international law, the UN Security Council resolutions and the European acquis.

Montenegro has applied for accession to the EU and Cyprus supports its European perspective. President Anastasiades will also inform his interlocutors on the illegal Turkish provocations in Cyprus’ EEZ and in occupied Famagusta. Developments in Ukraine will also be included in the agenda.

On 7 April, President Anastasiades will receive the Under Secretary for Political Affairs of the United States, Ms Victoria Nuland. The meeting comes only a few days after President Anastasiades met with the US President, Mr Joe Biden, in Brussels, on the sidelines of the European Council summit.

During the meeting with Ms Nuland, President Anastasiades will explain his proposal for CBMs and will refer to the Greek Cypriot side’s readiness to resume negotiations that will lead to a solution of the Cyprus problem. The US interest in the Cyprus issue and in developments in the wider Eastern Mediterranean region is well known. A meeting of the Council of Ministers is also scheduled on the same day.

On Friday, 8 April, President Anastasiades will brief a delegation of AHEPA on developments on the Cyprus issue, on energy and on US-Cyprus relations. He will also visit Larnaka, where an investor will undertake the management of the city’s port and marina.

In the evening of the same day, he will attend the signing ceremony of an agreement between Pafos Municipality and the American University of Beirut.
