Foreign Trade Statistics, January 2022 (final data) and February 2022 (provisional data)

The Statistical Service of Cyprus announces the release of final data on the foreign trade of Cyprus for January 2022 and of provisional data for February 2022.

FOREIGNTRADESTATISTICS, JANUARY 2022

The main developments in the foreign trade of Cyprus in January 2022 were:

(a)            Total imports of goods (from EU Member States and from third countries) amounted to €746,0 mn in January 2022 as compared to €590,6 mn in January 2021, recording an increase of 26,3%.

(b)            Exports of domestically produced products, including stores and provisions, in January 2022 were €101,7 mn as compared to €85,3 mn in January 2021, recording an increase of 19,2%. Domestic exports of industrial products in January 2022 were €93,9 mn compared to €76,8 mn in January 2021, whilst domestic exports of agricultural products in January 2022 were €6,6 mn compared to €7,6 mn in January 2021.

(c)            Exports of foreign products, including stores and provisions, in January 2022 were €120,7 mn as compared to €70,9 mn in January 2021, recording an increase of 70,2%.

FOREIGNTRADESTATISTICS, FEBRUARY 2022

On the basis of provisional data, the main developments in the foreign trade of Cyprus in February 2022 can be summarized as follows:

(a)             Total imports of goods were €703,4 mn as compared to €744,2 mn in February 2021, recording a decrease of 5,5%. Imports from other EU Member States in February 2022 were €445,6 mn and from third countries €257,8 mn, compared to €378,1 mn and €366,1 mn respectively in February 2021. Imports in February 2022 include the transfer of economic ownership of mobile transport equipment (vessels and aircrafts), with total value of €48,0 mn as compared to €221,9 mn in February 2021.

(b)             Total exports of goods in February 2022 were €295,5 mn as compared to €179,4 mn in February 2021, recording an increase of 64,7%. Exports to other EU Member States in February 2022 were €65,7 mn and to third countries €229,8 mn, compared to €58,7 mn and €120,7 mn respectively in February 2021. Exports in February 2022 include the transfer of economic ownership of mobile transport equipment (vessels), with total value of €70,6 mn as compared to €30,8 mn in February 2021.

(c)             Total imports of goods (from EU Member States and from third countries) in January – February 2022 amounted to €1.449,4 mn as compared to €1.334,8 mn in January – February 2021, recording an increase of 8,6%. Total exports of goods (to EU Member States and to third countries) in January - February 2022 were €517,9 mn compared to €335,7 mn in January - February 2021, registering an increase of 54,3%. The trade deficit was €931,4 mn in January - February 2022 compared to €999,2 mn in the corresponding period of 2021.
