The Statistical Service of Cyprus announces the release of final data on the foreign trade of Cyprus for March 2022 and of provisional data for April 2022.

Foreign Trade Statistics, March 2022

The main developments in the foreign trade of Cyprus in March 2022 were:

(a) Total imports of goods (from EU Member States and from third countries) amounted to €1.001,2 mn in March 2022 as compared to €596,5 mn in March 2021, recording an increase of 67,8%.

(b) Exports of domestically produced products, including stores and provisions, in March 2022 were €156,6 mn as compared to €120,3 mn in March 2021, recording an increase of 30,2%. Domestic exports of industrial products in March 2022 were €146,1 mn compared to €109,5 mn in March 2021, whilst domestic exports of agricultural products in March 2022 were €9,9 mn compared to €9,5 mn in March 2021.

(c) Exports of foreign products, including stores and provisions, in March 2022 were €115,0 mn as compared to €103,1 mn in March 2021, recording an increase of 11,5%.

Foreign Trade Statistics, April 2022

On the basis of provisional data, the main developments in the foreign trade of Cyprus in April 2022 can be summarized as follows:

(a) Total imports of goods were €838,0 mn as compared to €694,8 mn in April 2021, recording an increase of 20,6%. Imports from other EU Member States in April 2022 were €527,9 mn and from third countries €310,0 mn, compared to €495,5 mn and €199,3 mn respectively in April 2021. Imports in April 2022 include the transfer of economic ownership of mobile transport equipment (vessels and aircrafts), with total value of €35,8 mn as compared to €84,9 mn in April 2021.

(b) Total exports of goods in April 2022 were €283,9 mn as compared to €242,1 mn in April 2021, recording an increase of 17,3%. Exports to other EU Member States in April 2022 were €83,7 mn and to third countries €200,2 mn, compared to €82,1 mn and €160,0 mn respectively in April 2021. Exports in April 2022 include the transfer of economic ownership of mobile transport equipment (vessels), with total value of €35,5 mn as compared to €43,2 mn in April 2021.

(c) Total imports of goods (from EU Member States and from third countries) in January – April 2022 amounted to €3.317,5 mn as compared to €2.626,1 mn in January – April 2021, recording an increase of 26,3%. Total exports of goods (to EU Member States and to third countries) in January – April 2022 were €1.076,5 mn compared to €801,1 mn in January – April 2021, registering an increase of 34,4%. The trade deficit was €2.240,9 mn in January – April 2022 compared to €1.825,0 mn in the corresponding period of 2021.
