Annual change in sales -6,7 % 

In March 2023, the total sales of petroleum products amounted to 111.817 tonnes, recording a decrease of 6,7% compared to March 2022. A decrease was observed in the provisions of marine gasoil (-37,8%) as well as in the sales of kerosene (-71,1%), heating gasoil (-45,5%) and liquefied petroleum gases (-39,6%). On the contrary, a rise was recorded in the provisions of aviation kerosene (22,3%), as well as in the sales of asphalt (81,6%), heavy fuel oil (8,2%), road diesel (7,5%) and motor gasoline (6,7%). As far as the sales from filling stations are specifically concerned, these have registered a fall of 5,6% to 56.211 tonnes.

The total sales of petroleum products in March 2023 compared to February 2023 recorded a rise of 3,7%. Indicatively, an increase was recorded in the provisions of aviation kerosene (23,8%) and in the sales of road diesel (19,1%) and motor gasoline (17,5%). The total stocks of petroleum products at the end of March 2023 fell by 6,4% compared to the end of the previous month.

During the period January – March 2023, the total sales of petroleum products dropped by 5,1% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

Methodological Information

Scope and Coverage

The collection of data on Imports, Sales and Stocks of Petroleum Products is carried out on a monthly basis.

It concerns the sales of petroleum products from filling stations and the sales to government departments, to the British Bases and the United Nations, to ships and to other customers, as well as the stocks held at the end of each month. Only the petroleum companies are being covered. Additionally, the imports of petroleum products imported directly from the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) and the manufacturing industry are also included.

Data collection

The collection of data is conducted by the Statistical Service on a monthly basis by electronically receiving a purpose-designed questionnaire from each of these companies.
