In May 2023, the total sales of petroleum products amounted to 122.581 tonnes, recording an increase of 1,4% compared to May 2022. A rise was observed in the provisions of aviation kerosene (9,1%), as well as in the sales of heavy fuel oil (328,8%), kerosene (58,0%), asphalt (40,4%), liquefied petroleum gases (9,5%), road diesel (5,8%) and motor gasoline (4,0%). On the contrary, a decrease was observed in the provisions of marine gasoil (-12,7%), as well as in the sales of light fuel oil (-27,1%) and heating gasoil   (-0,9%). As far as the sales from filling stations are specifically concerned, these have registered an increase of 4,3% to 56.144 tonnes.

The total sales of petroleum products in May 2023 compared to April 2023 recorded an increase of 16,2%. Indicatively, the provisions of marine gasoil and aviation kerosene rose by 82,1% and 15,1% respectively, and so did the sales of road diesel (16,5%) and motor gasoline (12,8%). The total stocks of petroleum products at the end of May 2023 fell by 6,8% compared to the end of the previous month.

During the period January – May 2023, the total sales of petroleum products dropped by 3,8% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

Methodological Information

Scope and Coverage

The collection of data on Imports, Sales and Stocks of Petroleum Products is carried out on a monthly basis.

It concerns the sales of petroleum products from filling stations and the sales to government departments, to the British Bases and the United Nations, to ships and to other customers, as well as the stocks held at the end of each month. Only the petroleum companies are being covered. Additionally, the imports of petroleum products imported directly from the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) and the manufacturing industry are also included.

Data Collection

The collection of data is conducted by the Statistical Service on a monthly basis by electronically receiving a purpose-designed questionnaire from each of these companies.
