Curriculum Vitae of the new Commissioner for the Environment Ms Antonia Theodosiou

Ms Antonia Theodosiou studied at the Technical University of Aachen in Germany and obtained a Master's degree in Architecture, specialising in ecological building and restoration of architectural heritage monuments.

She attended a one-year course in Environmental Engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany. She also attended a two-year postgraduate course in Historic Monument Restoration at Frederick University Cyprus.

Professional highlights:

- She maintains an office in Lefkosia on architectural and environmental projects.

- She served for five years as Project Manager of the Akamas Sustainable Development Management Plan for the Department of Environment for the Ministries of Environment and the Interior.

- She compiled the Sustainable Development Plan of Akamas communities and promoted public benefit projects and actions, which are associated with the protection objectives of Natura 2000-Akama Peninsula sites.

- She collaborated with the National Commission of UNESCO for the inclusion of the Art of Dry Stone Structures in the National and World Lists of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and participated as a UNESCO expert in relevant educational programmes.

- She worked for two years at the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) in the tourism programme in traditional buildings and environmental issues and attended the School of Tourist Guides.

- She participated in European projects on environmental issues and the European Ecological Network Natura2000, on culture and energy issues.

She has received national and international awards for architectural and landscape projects:

- Award of the Association of Civil Engineers and Architects - Alexis Theodosiades for the restoration of listed buildings.

- Europa Nostra commendation for the restoration of a listed building and the incorporation of ancient tombs into it.

- Commendation from the Council of Europe for the restoration of a traditional man-made rural landscape in a NATURA2000 area.

- Three awards from the European Commission ICOMOS for the restoration of listed buildings and ancient monuments.

- Representation of Cyprus at the Biennale of Art and Architecture in Italy, with a project for the restoration of a listed building and the incorporation of ancient tombs.

- Local Government Award for the museological curatorship of the Akamas Regional Museum of Rural Life and Tradition - Handicraft/Crafts Education Centre in Drouseia, whose activities won an award from the European Network for Cultural Tourism.

She is a member of national and international associations and councils:

- Vice President of the International Association for the Interdisciplinary Study of Dry Stone Structures (SPS).

- Vice-President of the International Council of Monuments and Sites – Cyprus Section (ICOMOS).

- Scientific representative of ICOMOS Cyprus to the International Scientific Committee on the Architectural Heritage of the Earth (ISCEAH).

- Member of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Energy Office (CEA).

- Member of the Board of Directors of the Mediterranean Information, Culture and Sustainable Development Office (MIO-ECSDE).

- Member of the Committee for Monuments and Traditional Constructions of the Cyprus Chamber of Science and Technology (ETEK).

- Member of the first ETEK Committee on the Environment.

- President of the Cyprus Petra Foundation in Petra.

- She served for a number of years as President of the Federation of Environmental and Ecological Organisations of Cyprus and is an active member of environmental and cultural Organisations.

She was a founding member of the Cyprus Green Party in 1996 and was involved in its registration in the European Green Party. In 2001 she was a candidate in the parliamentary elections with the Cyprus Green Party and subsequently became active outside the Party, remaining in close cooperation. In 2021, she stood in the parliamentary elections as an associated candidate of the Cyprus Greens - Citizens' Cooperation political party. She is currently a member of the Central Committee of the Cyprus Greens - Citizens’ Cooperation party, the Cyprus Committee and the Committee for Akamas.

She is the author of publications on the traditional architecture, man-made landscape, dry stone structures, nature and culture of the Akamas Peninsula as follows:

- 1996 – Author of "HOUSES ARCHITECTURE AKAMA" in collaboration with Architect Anastasia Pitta. This concerns the traditional architecture, the cultural landscape, the natural environment and the physiognomy of the settlements of Akamas. Publication funding: A.G. Leventis Foundation.

- 2017 – Author of a bilingual guide "Akamas, Nature, Myth, Man", in collaboration with the archaeologist Evi Fiouri. Published by the Department of Antiquities in collaboration with ICOMOS - Cyprus Section.

- 2019 – Author of a bilingual guide on "Rural Landscapes". Published by the Department of Antiquities in collaboration with ICOMOS - Cyprus Section. Presentation of the guide and exhibition at a conference in the framework of the International Day of Monuments and Landscapes.

- 2023 – Author of the "Manual for the Construction of Roads on Mountain Terraces in Cyprus", in the framework of the 3PRO TROODOS Project, funded by the Regional Development Fund and the Republic of Cyprus through the Research and Innovation Promotion Foundation in collaboration with the Cyprus Institute.

- 2023 - Preparation of material for the creation of an e-Guide on the topic: Nature and Culture Routes in Akamas Peninsula, in collaboration with the geographer - environmentalist for the Department of Environment, Manuel Ioannou.

- 2024 - In preparation: bilingual publication "Rural Life, Traditions - Akamas Peninsula" for the Community Council of Drouseia.

- 2024 - In preparation: bilingual publication on the Xerolithic Heritage of Cyprus in collaboration with the architect Anastasia Pitta.
