Address by the President of the Republic of Cyprus Mr Nikos Christodoulides at the CIM - Cyprus Business School Graduation, yesterday

It is with great pleasure that I join you on this very special day, the Graduation Ceremony of the CIM - Cyprus Business School.

Since its establishment in 1978, the CIM has evolved into an all-round Business School, offering a wide range of accredited programs of study at both Undergraduate as well as Postgraduate level – from Marketing, Business to Accounting and Finance, Shipping, Human Resource Management and Law. CIM equips students with the skills and knowledge required to respond, but also shape the needs of an ever-changing, complex and highly competitive world.

Therefore, I wish to congratulate the Founder and the Director of the Cyprus Business School and the academic and administrative staff of the School for their vital contribution in shaping the achievement of the Institution’s goals and objectives.

Graduating is an important milestone for both students and academic staff. It marks the recognition and culmination of your hard and persistent work, of your relentless effort to accumulate knowledge, to excel. It also marks the beginning of another journey, in which the knowledge and skills acquired will be formative in a professional environment, and more broadly in our society.

Higher Education is vital in today’s world. It is an enabler and a driver of economic and social development of a country. As Europe strives to strengthen its competitiveness, including though innovation, higher education is a key component in this path.

In Cyprus, higher education is constantly evolving so as to not only keep pace, but also accelerate social, economic and technological advances. The Ministry of Education is spearheading initiatives to further modernise Higher Education, aiming for excellence, enhanced research capacities, meaningful international collaborations, and stronger interconnections between Higher Education and the demands of the labour market.

In this regard, Cyprus Business School has a crucial role to play and one that is key for the development of young people’s skills and the enhancement of employment prospects. At the same time, all Higher Education Institutions in our country are called upon to contribute to the implementation of the Government’s strategic plan for Cyprus to become a regional and international education and research hub. Within this framework, and given the constantly evolving technological and economic developments at an international level, all Higher Education Institutions in Cyprus need to assess and reorganise their programmes of study, wherever needed, to ensure that qualifications match the new landscape.

In this context, the Department of Higher Education at the Ministry of Education, within the framework of the Cyprus Recovery and Resilience Plan, is in the process of developing a centralised database regarding skills supply and demand of Cyprus Higher Education graduates. This provides the ability to monitor the demand and supply of skills, identify trends and challenges, create specific policies to respond to the changing needs of the labour market, and evaluate the extent to which Higher Education meets the requirements of the workforce.

Dear Graduating Class of 2024,

Today marks a milestone in your lives. As graduates of the CIM - Cyprus Business School you have acquired the knowledge and skills to carve with great confidence the next chapter. You have invested through hard work in your future. Learning is a journey that never ends. In a constantly evolving world never stop striving to be a build knowledge and acquire new skills.
