The Foreign Minister, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, to participate in the General Affairs and Foreign Affairs Councils of the EU, in Brussels

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, will travel to Brussels today, November 18, to attend the General Affairs and Foreign Affairs Councils of the European Union to be held on Monday, November 19.

The General Affairs Council, in Article 50 formation, will discuss the outcome of negotiations on the UK's exit from the EU in light of the UK - European Union agreement in principle on the text of the UK's Withdrawal Agreement and on the outline of the Political Declaration on the Future Relationship, and will prepare the Extraordinary European Council summit, in Article 50 formation, of November 25 th.

The Foreign Affairs Council will discuss EU relations with the Central Asian countries, the post-election situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the humanitarian aspects of the crisis in Yemen. The Foreign Ministers will also hold an exchange of views on the situation in Ukraine. Finally, in a joint session with Defense Ministers, they will discuss a range of issues relating to the EU's security and defense.

In the framework of the two Council sessions, Minister Christodoulides will, inter alia, hold separate meetings with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Mrs Federica Mogherini, and the Greek Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr George Katrougkalos.  

Mr Christodoulides will return to Cyprus on November 20th.
