Statistical Service - Government Labour Force February 2018: 51.549

The government labour force increased by 1.533 persons (3,1%) in February 2018 compared to 2017. The casual staff increased by 15,0% and reached 15.865 persons compared to 13.792 persons in February 2017. Permanent staff decreased by 540 persons (-1,5%).

Compared to February 2017 there is increase in all the categories of government labour force. The largest increase is observed in category Hourly Paid Workers (16,7%) in which the casual staff is increased by 365,8% (1.317 persons).  

Compared to January 2018, the government labour force is increased by 928 persons (1,8%) driven by an increase of 972 persons (137,9%) of the casual Hourly Paid Workers.

METHODOLOGICAL INFORMATION

Coverage

Government includes Civil Service, Educational Service, Military Personnel and Hourly Paid Workers. Civil Service includes the staff (either permanent or casual) of the Ministries, Departments and Services. Educational Service includes the permanent and casual educational staff that is occupied in school units and the staff of Cyprus Productivity Center and the Higher Hotel Institute of Cyprus. Military Personnel include Police Service, Fire Service and the National Guard. The members of the House of Representatives are not included.

 

Collection of data

Data concerning employment in Government is provided from the Treasury and refers to the number of persons that were paid in the current month.
