Address by the President of the Republic Mr Nicos Anastasiades at the inauguration ceremony of the new Cruise Terminal at Limassol Port
It is a great pleasure to join you today at the inauguration event for the New Passenger Terminal Building, which marks a new era for the Limassol Port and the tourist and maritime industry at large.
A new page in the history of the Cypriot economy was established in April 2016 when the Concession Agreements for the Port were signed.
The Agreements do not only provide an important source of revenue for the country, but constitute the culmination of a vital project to the development and growth prospects of our country, through upgrading Cyprus’ role in the South-Eastern Mediterranean, promoting it as an important regional centre of tourist, maritime and trade commerce in the Eastern Mediterranean and beyond.
We are particularly pleased for the highly experienced international and local partners that will ensure the prospect of Limassol Port in the coming decades. This project, which is one of the largest commercialization projects in Cyprus to date, serves as a model for the Republic of Cyprus and its ongoing efforts and prosperous future to a modern centre for investment, trade and services.
The New Passenger Terminal Building was procured and financed by the Cyprus Ports Authority, and licensed to DP World Limassol Ltd through the Concession Agreement. DP World Limassol will provide a stable, efficient and modern environment for cruising, cargo handling and other port activities through the multi-purpose terminal, to the benefit of the country’s economy and the people of Cyprus.
In concluding, I wish to yet again express my appreciation to DP World and DP Limassol for the excellent co-operation with the governmental authorities and to wish to them all success in their future activities, aiming to establish the Limassol Port as a regional tourist, maritime and trade destination and hub.
On my own behalf, I wish to assure you of the Government’s continuous support in your future development plans.
