The President of the Republic presided over a meeting of the National Council
The President of the Republic Mr Nicos Anastasiades presided over a meeting of the National Council, at the Presidential Palace.
In his remarks to the media, following the conclusion of the meeting, the Government Spokesman Mr. Kyriakos Koushios, read the following joint communique of the National Council:
«The National Council, during its meeting today, in addition to the briefing it received from the President of the Republic and the views which were expressed by the political parties, focused mainly on today’s illegal action by Turkey with regard to the beachfront of the fenced city of Varosha.
The National Council:
1. Condemns in the strongest way today’s actions by Turkey which violate the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, and in particular UN resolutions 550 (1984) and 789 (1992) and calls on Turkey to revoke and comply with the above resolutions.
2. Reiterates the readiness by the Greek Cypriot side to participate in a productive dialogue for the solution of the Cyprus problem, away from threats and fait accomplis, on the basis of the framework set out by the relevant UN resolutions, the decisions of the Security Council and the principles and values of the EU, of which The Republic of Cyprus is and will remain a member».
