The Statistical Service announces the publication of the report titled "Registration of Motor Vehicles" for the period January-September 2020.

In September 2020, the total registrations of motor vehicles numbered 4.137, recording a decrease of 0,6% compared to September 2019. Passenger saloon cars registered a fall of 2,5% to 3.229.

The main developments during the period January-September 2020 compared to the corresponding period of 2019 are summarised as follows:

(a) The total registrations of motor vehicles decreased by 18,0% to 29.106 in January-September 2020, from 35.499 in January-September 2019.

(b) Passenger saloon cars decreased to 22.652 from 28.761 in January-September 2019, recording a fall of 21,2%. Of the total passenger saloon cars, 7.729 or 34,1% were new and 14.923 or 65,9% were used cars.

(c) Goods conveyance vehicles decreased by 17,1% to 3.436 in January-September 2020, compared to 4.147 in January-September 2019. In particular, light goods vehicles decreased by 18,9% to 2.884, heavy goods vehicles by 6,2% to 412 and road tractors (units of trailers) by 6,7% to 140.

(d) Mopeds < 50cc recorded a decrease of 31,5% to 159 in January-September 2020, compared to 232 in the corresponding period of the previous year.

(e) Mechanised cycles> 50cc increased to 2.279 in January-September 2020, compared to 1.900 in January-September 2019, recording an increase of 19,9%.
