The spokesman of the UN Secretary General has answered question he was asked by Al Jazeera news agency with regard to the reopening of Varosha seafront. Full text of questions and answers follows:

Question( Al Jazeera): The authorities in “northern Cyprus” reopened part of the seafront in Varosha. I know that the Secretary-General had spoken about this before it happened, but it’s now happened and in the light of the fact that there is a Security Council meeting on Friday afternoon, can we please have the Secretary-General’s comment;

Dujarric: The Secretary-General’s comment remains the same, that our view and our position is guided by Resolution 550, which states that “it considers any attempts to settle any part of Varosha by people other than its inhabitants as inadmissible.”

Question: So you condemn it?

Dujarric: We’ve stated our position which is guided by the Security Council resolution.
