World Statistics Day – 20 October 2020 “Connecting the World with Data We Can Trust”
The World Statistics Day, which takes place every five years, will be celebrated for the third time on the 20th of October 2020. The aim of the celebration is for the world to acknowledge and celebrate the role of statistics in our societies. Official statistics are of vital importance, helping users obtain an overall picture of specific areas of interest and policy makers to formulate evidence-based decisions and plans for a better future. The previous celebration of the world statistics day in 2015, included activities organized in more than 110 countries.
This years’ motto is “Connecting the world with data we can trust”. This theme reflects on the importance of trust, authoritative data, innovation and the public good in national statistical systems. Current, reliable, timely and trusted data are necessary to understand the changing world in which we live.
CYSTAT acknowledges the fundamental role of its work and has made it its primary commitment over the years, to produce reliable, timely, high-quality statistics, taking into account users' needs. In order to fulfill this commitment, CYSTAT continuously evolves, implementing technological and methodological changes, following the latest developments in the area of statistics.
In the framework of the celebration of the World Statistics Day, CYSTAT and the Cyprus Statistical Society are organizing a web event on "The Statistical Perspective to the COVID-19 Pandemic".
