Sample testing among close contacts of CYPRA slaughterhouse’s COVID-19 confirmed cases

The Ministry of Health announces that the persons who are considered close contacts (see below) of the confirmed cases found at the CYPRA slaughterhouse in the District of Lefkosia, where there has been an influx of cases since the1st of November 2020, must be confined to their homes and have no contact with other persons in and out of their household.

Moreover, those who have not undergone a covid test are urged to call the telephone line 1412, from Monday, 9 November 2020 until Wednesday, 11 November 2020, between 8am and 8pm, or to send their details (name/surname, telephone number and name of contact) by email at contacttracing@moh.gov.cy and inform that they are close contacts of a confirmed case from the slaughterhouse, in order to arrange an appointment for a test.

Definition of close contact:

  • A person who lives with a confirmed case.
  • A person who had immediate physical contact with a confirmed case (e.g. handshake, embrace, kiss).
  • A person who had unprotected contact with infectious secretions of the respiratory track of a confirmed case.
  • A person who had face-to-face contact with a confirmed case at a distance of less than 2 meters and lasting more than 15 minutes.
  • A person who met with a confirmed case in an indoor space (e.g. classroom, office, cinema, hospital waiting area, etc.) for more than 15 minutes and at a distance of less than 2 meters.

Persons who have developed symptoms should immediately contact their GP for a medical assessment or call the telephone line 1420 and report that they are a close contact of a confirmed case.
