The Statistical Service announces the publication of the report entitled “Registration of Motor Vehicles” for the period January – October 2020.

In October 2020, the total registrations of motor vehicles numbered 3.171, recording a decrease of 23,0% compared to October 2019. Passenger saloon cars registered a fall of 21,0% to 2.571.

The main developments during the period January – October 2020 compared to the corresponding period of 2019 are summarised as follows:

      (a)    The total registrations of motor vehicles decreased by 18,5% to 32.277 in January-October 2020, from 39.617 in January-October 2019.

      (b)    Passenger saloon cars decreased to 25.223 from 32.016 in January-October 2019, recording a fall of 21,2%. Of the total passenger saloon cars, 8.530 or 33,8% were new and 16.693 or 66,2% were used cars.

      (c)     Goods conveyance vehicles decreased by 20,6% to 3.750 in January-October 2020, compared to 4.722 in January-October 2019. In particular, light goods vehicles decreased by 22,6% to 3.139, heavy goods vehicles by 7,0% to 464 and road tractors (units of trailers) by 12,5% to 147.

      (d)    Mopeds < 50cc recorded a decrease of 36,8% to 165 in January-October 2020, compared to 261 in the corresponding period of the previous year.

      (e)    Mechanised cycles> 50cc increased to 2.502 in January-October 2020, compared to 2.112 in January-October 2019, recording an increase of 18,5%.
