Written statement by the Government Spokesman, Mr Kyriakos I. Koushos, on the telephone conversation between the President of the Republic and the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom
The President of the Republic, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, had a telephone conversation today with the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Mr Dominic Raab.
During their telephone conversation, Mr Raab assured the President of the Republic of the intention of the United Kingdom to positively contribute towards both the convening of the informal five-party summit, which the UN Secretary-General intends to convene, as well as during the subsequent continuation of the talks, but also towards achieving a solution to the Cyprus problem, based on what has already been agreed.
For his part, the President of the Republic thanked the British Secretary of State for his country’s interest and intentions.
At the same time, he pointed out that Turkey's illegal acts, both in the fenced-off city of Famagusta and in the EEZ of the Republic of Cyprus, do not contribute to creating a positive and constructive atmosphere for the resumption of the talks.
