Written statement by the Commissioner for the Environment, Ms Klelia Vasiliou
In a teleconference we had today with the Embassy of the United States of America in Cyprus, I had the opportunity to express my joy and satisfaction for the decision of President Joe Biden to prioritize the reintegration of the United States of America into the Paris Climate Agreement.
In the discussion we had, we analyzed all the reasons why the Global Alliance is so urgent and looked into ways we can work together to create those actions that will reduce the effects of our decade-long mistakes that have accelerated global warming.
The appointment of John Kerry as President Biden’s Special Envoy for Climate, marks the beginning of a global vigilance to address the environmental threats that only through cooperation we can tackle. As soon as the conditions of the pandemic allow it, we will announce concrete actions.
