The vaccination coverage increases, the population is being shielded against COVID-19
The percentage of the population that is eligible for vaccination against COVID-19 and has received at least the 1st dose of the vaccine, is close to 50%. The vaccination coverage is increasing rapidly in recent weeks, with 359,952 individuals (48.6%) having received the 1st dose of the vaccine until yesterday, and 155,192 individuals (21%) having completed their vaccination. According to OurWorldInData, Cyprus ranks 3rd among EU states as regards the administration of vaccine doses and the vaccination plan is at a fairly advanced stage in comparison to other EU states.
The aim of the National Vaccination Plan is to achieve a high level of immunity in the population of Cyprus, in order for the country to remain on a path of improvement and to ensure the protection of the citizens' health. To achieve this goal, the process of arranging appointments for all individuals aged 18 and over has already been completed, and during this period, the opportunity to arrange an appointment is gradually being given again for all ages.
The rate of vaccination coverage per age group is gradually increasing, thus reducing the number of positive cases per age group and protecting citizens from serious illness, and this has led to a reduction in the admission of COVID-19 patients to hospitals.
More specifically, in the age group of 20-29 the vaccination coverage with at least the 1st dose increased to 15.3%, in the age group of 30-39 to 35.2%, in the age group of 40-49 to 52%, in the age group of 50-59 to 54.8%, in the age group of 60-69 to 68.5%, in the age group of 70-79 to 81.9%, and in individuals over the age of 80 to 85.4 %.
In terms of vaccination coverage (with at least the 1st dose) per District, the District of Pafos remains in the first place with 50.7%. The Districts of Larnaka and Lefkosia follow with 47.2% and 47% respectively, while in the Districts of Lemesos and Ammochostos 46.1% and 43.8% have been vaccinated with at least the 1st dose of the vaccine, respectively.
The confidence that vaccination against COVID-19 is a very important scientific weapon in preventing the emergence of new mutations and in limiting the spread of the virus prevails among citizens, who respond positively to the call for vaccination. It is now understood that through the progress of the vaccination program, we will be able to gradually return to a more functional daily life, without restrictions and measures.
