It is with great honor and pleasure that I host this Iftar dinner as a sign of respect and recognition of the significance and underlying message that the Muslim tradition of breaking the fast during Ramadan brings.

I am particularly pleased that you have accepted my invitation and by doing so allowing us to share with you this special occasion; an occasion to renew our commitment to our common values of respect, unity and tolerance and of our commitments to one another- to peace, justice and dignity for all people.

Ramadan shows us that despite the uniqueness of each faith, there are traditions that are common and shared by many faiths: prayer and fasting; piety and devotion to our religious beliefs; a time of reflection; the gathering of family and friends.

I would like to take this opportunity to convey the appreciation of President Anastasiades, his government, as well as my own gratitude to each and every one of you, members of the diplomatic corps accredited to the Republic of Cyprus, for your personal commitment to the relations between Cyprus and your respective countries and peoples.
