Booster dose administration procedure for people who were vaccinated with the Johnson&Johnson, for diabetics and for people aged 50 and over

Further to the decisions of the Council of Ministers on the vaccination with a booster dose of the vaccine against COVID-19, please note the following:

1. Persons who received the Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine:

  • The booster dose is administered provided a period of six months has elapsed since the primary vaccination.
  • For the booster dose, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine or an mRNA (Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna) vaccine is administered.
  • The booster dose is administered to persons aged 50 and over.
  • The beneficiaries can be vaccinated at the walk-in vaccination centres operating in all Districts, without prior appointment arrangement.

2. Persons with diabetes:

  • The booster dose is administered provided a period of six months has elapsed since the primary vaccination.
  • For the booster dose, an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna) is administered. It is specified that persons who received the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine at their primary vaccination will receive the same vaccine as a booster dose; respectively those who received the Moderna vaccine at their primary vaccination will receive a booster dose with the same vaccine. Persons vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine at their primary vaccination will have a choice between the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine or the Moderna vaccine.
  • The booster dose is administered to persons with diabetes aged 18 and over.
  • The booster dose is administered:

-  following the arrangement of an appointment via the Vaccination Portal for the beneficiaries of GHS. The Vaccination Portal is already available for beneficiaries; or,

-  without prior appointment arrangement, through the walk-in vaccination centres operating in all Districts. Walk-in centres will serve GHS beneficiaries Monday to Thursday, from 8 am to 1 pm. Every Friday, non-beneficiaries/non-registered to GHS persons can be served at the walk-in centres.

  • For walk-in vaccinations, beneficiaries must provide evidence attesting to the specific diagnosis (certificate from a treating physician, GHS prescription, etc.).

3. Persons aged 50 and over (vaccinated with Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca):

  • The booster dose is administered provided a period of six months has elapsed since the primary vaccination.
  • For the booster dose, an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna) is administered. It is specified that persons who received the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine at their primary vaccination will receive the same vaccine as a booster dose, respectively those who received the Moderna vaccine at their primary vaccination will receive a booster dose with the same vaccine. Persons vaccinated with AstraZeneca will have a choice between Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine or Moderna vaccine.
  • The booster dose is administered:

-  following the arrangement of an appointment via the Vaccination Portal for the beneficiaries of the GHS. The Vaccination Portal is already available for beneficiaries; or,

-  without prior appointment arrangement, through the walk-in vaccination centres operating in all Districts. Walk-in centres will serve GHS beneficiaries Monday to Thursday, from 8 am to 1 pm. Every Friday, non-beneficiaries/non-registered persons can be served at the walk-in centres.


It is stressed that all beneficiaries that fall into the above groups must necessarily provide their Vaccination Card and proof of identification (Identity Card, Passport, Alien Registration Card, etc.).

Regarding the vaccination, with the booster dose, of people with severe obesity, an announcement will be issued in the following days.
