The President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, signed today the book of condolence opened at the European Parliament’s Office in Cyprus, the "European Union House", for the death of the President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli. 

In his message, the President of the Republic wrote the following: 

"On behalf of the Government and the people of the Republic of Cyprus, I wish to express my heartfelt condolences for the premature passing of the President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli.

I have had the privilege of getting to know and working with David Sassoli and I will always remember him as an outstanding President, a dedicated European leader and a man of vision and principles, who has never shied away from working tirelessly for a democratic, united, efficient and resilient European Union.

Cyprus and Europe have lost a good friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones, as well as with the people of his native, Italy.

Addio carissimo Presidente e Amico."
