In December 2021, the total sales of petroleum products amounted to 129.519 tonnes, recording a rise of 23,8% compared to December 2020. An increase was observed in the provisions of aviation kerosene (179,2%) and marine gasoil (135,7%), as well as in the sales of nearly all other fuels. Indicatively, a rise was recorded in the sales of asphalt (19,7%), kerosene (19,0%), heating gasoil (16,4%), motor gasoline (7,6%) and road diesel (1,2%). As far as the sales from filling stations are specifically concerned, these have registered an increase of 7,2% to 64.217 tonnes.

The total sales of petroleum products in December 2021 compared to November 2021 recorded an increase of 12,0%; the sales of motor gasoline rose by 8,5% and those of road diesel by 2,7%, while the provisions of aviation kerosene dropped by 23,1%. The total stocks of petroleum products at the end of December 2021 decreased by 3,6% compared to the end of the previous month.

During the year 2021, the total sales of petroleum products increased by 6,8% compared to 2020. The provisions of aviation kerosene rose by 63,9% and an increase was also recorded in the sales of asphalt (36,9%), motor gasoline (7,3%) and road diesel (7,2%). On the contrary, a decrease was observed in the sales of kerosene (-11,5%), heating gasoil (-9,2%), as well as in the provisions of marine gasoil (-5,2%). In 2021 the sales from filling stations reached 659.863 tonnes, recording a rise of 4,9% compared to 2020.

Methodological Information

Scope and Coverage

The collection of data on Imports, Sales and Stocks of Petroleum Products is carried out on a monthly basis.

It concerns the sales of petroleum products from filling stations and the sales to government departments, to the British Bases and the United Nations, to ships and to other customers, as well as the stocks held at the end of each month. Only the petroleum companies are being covered. Additionally, the imports of petroleum products imported directly from the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) and the manufacturing industry are also included.

Data collection

The collection of data is conducted by the Statistical Service on a monthly basis by electronically receiving a purpose-designed questionnaire from each of these companies.
