Appointment availability for the Nuvaxovid vaccine via the vaccination portal

In the framework of its efforts to facilitate citizens’ vaccination against COVID-19, the Ministry of Health informs that Novavax’s Nuvaxovid vaccine is available on the vaccination portal only and citizens can now arrange their vaccination appointments.

It should be noted that the Nuvaxovid vaccine is given to people aged 18 years and over in two doses, with an interval of three weeks between doses.  It is only used as 1st and 2nd dose of vaccine against COVID-19.

How does the Nuvaxovid vaccine work?

The Nuvaxovid vaccine works by preparing the body to defend itself against the COVID-19 infection. It contains a version of the spike protein that has been produced in the laboratory and an “adjuvant”, a substance that helps to strengthen the immune responses to the vaccine. When a person receives the vaccine, the immune system will identify the protein in the vaccine as foreign and produce natural defenses - antibodies and T cells - against it. If, later on, the vaccinated person comes into contact with the SARS-CoV-2virus, the immune system will recognise the spike protein in the virus and be ready to attack it.

It is recalled that vaccination centres in all districts operate from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Every Wednesday, the walk-in vaccination centres in all districts will continue to operate from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm

Every Saturday, the walk-in vaccination centres in all districts will operate from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.
