The Director of the Press Office of the President issued a statement regarding this week’s schedule of the President of the Republic

The President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, addressed the opening session of 59th PASYDY Conference, today. Later, President Anastasiades had a meeting with the President of the European Investment Bank, Mr Werner Hoyer.

According to a written statement issued yesterday by the Director of the Press Office of the President of the Republic, Mr Andreas Iosif, on Tuesday, 12 April, President Anastasiades will meet with the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Europe, Central Asia and the Americas, at the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs of the United Nations, Mr Miroslav Jenča. He will be accompanied by the senior political affairs officer -responsible for the Cyprus problem, Mr Charles Anyidoho. The President of the Republic is expected to present again the positions of the Greek Cypriot side, as well as his proposal on the Confidence Building Measures, while he will reiterate the readiness and the will of our side for the resumption of the process of talks for the solution of the Cyprus problem.

The appointment of a UN Secretary-General’s special envoy for Cyprus is also expected to be discussed at the meeting. As known, a relevant decision was taken last September in New York, during the tripartite meeting of Guterres - Anastasiades - Tatar, after the United Nations General Assembly. The President of the Republic is also expected to refer to the illegal actions of Turkey and the Turkish Cypriot side both at sea and on the ground, and to the need to reverse the illegal actions in the enclosed area of Famagusta.

On Wednesday, 13 April, a meeting of the Council of Ministers will be held, after which the President will meet with the Minister of Digital Governance of Greece, Mr Kyriakos Pierrakakis, who will visit Cyprus for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in the area of Digital Policy and Cybersecurity with the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Mr Kyriakos Kokkinos.

In the afternoon of the same day, President Anastasiades will lay the foundation stone of the Department of Biological Sciences of the “A.G. Leventis Foundation”, and he will address the ceremony. The President of the Republic will then attend an event on gender equality at Ledra Palace, under the aegis of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Cyprus, Mr Colin Stewart, which will also be attended by the Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar.

On Thursday, 14 April, the President of the Republic will receive the credentials of ten new Ambassadors. On the evening of the same day he will attend the In Business Awards ceremony.

On Friday, April 15th, President Anastasiades will receive Lebanon’s Foreign Minister Abdullah Bhu Habib, who will pay a visit to Cyprus. He will also have a broad meeting on the issue of private operations carried out by clinics and hospitals. The Attorney General and the Assistant Attorney General, the Auditor-General, the Director-General of the Ministry of Health and the Presidents of the Health Insurance Organisation and the State Health Services Organisation will be present, among others.
