Presidential Elections 2023 – Repeat election: Statement by the Chief Returning Officer, Dr Costas Constantinou, on the recommencement of voting at 1.00 p.m.
After a one-hour interval, the repeat voting for the election of the President of the Republic recommenced at 1.00 p.m. precisely.
On this occasion, allow me to say that, in our view, the results of this Sunday’s repeat election process are expected sooner compared to the first round of elections, due to the fact that, on the one hand, the sorting and counting process of the votes is easier, since the number of candidates is significantly smaller compared to last Sunday, and on the other hand, the improved weather conditions we have today.
We hold the view, that if everything goes as planned we will have have the final results between 7.30-8.00 p.m. The confirmation of the results will follow so that around 9.00 p.m. we can have the official final results.
According to our schedule, at around 10.00 p.m. the proclamation ceremony of the new President of the Republic for the next five years, 2023 – 2028, is expected to take place.
Therefore, less than 5 hours remain for the end of the voting. For this reason, I call, once again, on all voters to go to the polling stations on time and exercise their right to vote within the timeframe set by the Law, namely by 6 p.m..
