Our monuments celebrate “Under the full moon” – Archaeological sites open to public on the evening of August 26
The Department of Antiquities announces that this year, on Sunday August 26, 2018, it will celebrate, for the first time, the August full moon, by opening to the public the archaeological sites of Kourion, Agios Georgios Pegeias and Ancient Idalion.
The sites will be opened between 7:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. and entrance will be free. The Department of Antiquities invites the public to visit these archaeological sites, for a magical evening “Under the Full Moon”, walk around the monuments in the moonlight, and experience a unique perception of time and the ancient remains.
To celebrate the occasion, an event will be organized at the archaeological site of Ancient Idalion at 8:30 p.m., with the participation of an actor and a musician, who will read texts relating to the ancient and modern Idalion, accompanied by a violin. This 40-minute event, is organized in collaboration with the Phivos Stavrides Foundation – Larnaka Archives.
A music concert will also take place at the archaeological site of Agios Georgios Pegeias, under the direction of composer Sotiris Karageorghis, in collaboration with the Municipality of Peyia.
Finally, at the archaeological site of Kourion, as opposed to the music events organised at the ancient theatre, the visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the ruins of the site in silence, gazing at the sea and the magnificent landscape, under the moon.
