It would be an omission on my behalf if I did not welcome and wish every success to the numerous athletes who are taking part at the IOANNIDEIA 2018 – Optimist World Championship.

An event established in 2013 by the Famagusta Nautical Club in order to commemorate the heroism and memory of Commodore Andreas Ioannides, Navy Commander during the tragic events at Mari.

To this end, the establishment of IOANNIDEIA as a highly successful event for nautical sports, with increased reputation and participants year after year, undoubtedly honors the services and vision of Commander Ioannides to internationally promoting the Famagusta Nautical Club.

To this end, I wish to warmly congratulate the President and the members of the Famagusta Nautical Club, both for their overall actions and initiatives and for their successful organisation of IOANNIDEIA 2018.

I have no doubt that the organization of high-standard international competition events as those undertaken by the Famagusta Nautical Club will attract further international athletic events of the same caliber in our country.

And it is our true and sincere wish and vision for the Famagusta Nautical Club to be able to soon host such events in the waters of Famagusta, in front of Jerry Island where its true home is.
