In the context of broader reform and modernization, and responding to the need for more direct information, the Foreign Affairs Ministry is establishing as of today Monday, September 17^th 2018, a specialized Communication and Public Diplomacy Unit, introducing at the same time the office of Spokesperson.

The main mission of the Communication and Public Diplomacy Unit is to provide prompt and valid information on the actions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with a view to putting forward and promoting the positions and interests of the Republic of Cyprus more effectively. The operation of the Unit also aims at enhancing the culture of transparency and interactivity in the day-to-day work of the Ministry through, inter alia, a more comprehensive use of technology and modern means of public diplomacy, including social media.

In this context, Mr Demetris Samuel, First Counsellor, assumes as of today duties as Spokesman and Head of the new Unit at the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Mr Samuel has been a member of the Diplomatic Service since 1999 and has served in the past, apart from the Central Office, in the Diplomatic Missions of the Republic of Cyprus in Helsinki, St. Petersburg, Strasbourg, Copenhagen and Geneva.
