It is with great pleasure that I join you at tonight’s reception, which marks the opening of the Maritime Cyprus 2023 Conference. A conference that has been established as one of the most significant gatherings of the international shipping community. I am pleased to note that this year the conference is even more upgraded, and, in this regard, I would like to congratulate the organisers for introducing new and innovative ideas.

The shipping sector is very important for Cyprus, a nation with long maritime history. Today, Cyprus is a fully-fledged dynamic shipping centre, combining a prestigious and quality sovereign registry of ships of high standards of safety and a domestic shipping industry, known for its excellent quality services.

I would like to stress the firm commitment of my Government to work towards the further development and strengthening of the shipping sector in Cyprus, providing the appropriate framework for a sustainable growth.

I would also like to take the opportunity to congratulate Mr Prokopiou – a worldwide recognised personality for his achievements in the international shipping – for being bestowed the ‘Cyprus Maritime Personality Award’.

Mr Prokopiou, allow me to express my sincere appreciation for your valuable support to the Cyprus Ship Registry. You have been a supporter of the Cyprus flag for many years and this is much greatly appreciated.

Mr Prokopiou, please accept this award which symbolises a boat, resembling a golden-green leaf sailing on the sea, which represents the island of Cyprus. The boat's journey towards Ithaca signifies the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom, the aim to keep going and never giving up, pursuing progress and advancement.  

The journey continues!
