The President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, presided over a meeting of the Council of Leaders (leaders of the parliamentary political parties) today at the Presidential Palace.

Following the meeting, the Government Spokesman, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, told reporters that “the members of the Council of Leaders were briefed by the President of the Republic about the illegal activities of Turkey within the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the Republic of Cyprus, as well as about the actions taken so far but also the additional intentions of the Government for the management of the state of affairs as it has developed.

The leaders of the parliamentary parties expressed their views and took a stance in a specific way both about the developed situation as well as about the actions which they consider that the Government should take.

The Council of Leaders unanimously condemns the Turkish actions within the EEZ of the Republic of Cyprus, supports the efforts of the Government to secure the sovereign rights of the Republic of Cyprus as well as the uninterrupted continuation of its energy plans.

The parties maintain their views with regard to the way and the measures with which the situation should be addressed.”
