Address by the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment, Mr Petros Xenophontos, at the MBT European Strategic Partner Conference

It is a great pleasure to welcome you in Cyprus, as the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment, and also to represent the Cyprus Government at the MIDEA MBT European Strategic Partner Conference, and even a greater pleasure, that Cyprus was chosen to host it.

We applaud Midea Group for their continuous investments in new energy and technologies. Their efforts to provide the market with eco-friendly and intelligent solutions in air conditioning, heating and building automation are truly commendable. Such initiatives are fundamental in our collective pursuit of a greener, more intelligent world.

Moreover, I want to thank CED Electric for the invite and I promise that the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment will always support companies with ethical responsibilities as their main priority, which supply the market with eco-friendly products that ensure a better future for this country.

Ladies and gentlemen,

I would like to take this opportunity to emphasise Cyprus's crucial role in implementing the new European Union regulations regarding F-gases. As the Ministry entrusted with enforcing these regulations in Cyprus, we are persistent in our commitment to their strict adherence. The EU's recent regulation represents a milestone in our collective efforts to combat climate change. By phasing down the use of high Global Warming Potential (GWP) gases, we are taking a decisive step towards achieving our climate and environmental goals.

These efforts are deeply integrated into our Cyprus National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP), a strategic document outlining our national goals and contributions to the EU's climate 2030 targets, providing a clear roadmap for our journey towards a sustainable future. Consequently, through the reduction of F-gases, we are not only protecting our environment but also aligning ourselves with the EU's ambitious climate agenda for 2030.

Innovation stands at the heart of our long-term strategy for climate neutrality for 2050. Cyprus is committed to fostering a culture of innovation, encouraging research, and promoting sustainable technologies. By investing in research and development, we aim to identify novel solutions that can accelerate our journey towards climate neutrality. Collaborations between governments, businesses and research institutions are vital in this effort. Together, we can harness the power of innovation to drive sustainable practices, reduce emissions and create a greener future for our nation and the global community.

Dear friends,

In closing, I express my warm appreciation to everyone present here today. Your dedication to environmental management is not just admirable; it is essential for our shared future. I encourage each one of you to continue your invaluable work. Together, let us foster a world where innovation, environmental consciousness and responsible policies intertwine, ensuring a sustainable legacy for generations to come.

I wish you all an enriching and fruitful continuation of this conference. Thank you.
