The Minister of Foreign Affairs paid a visit to Jordan

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Constantinos Kombos, paid a visit to Jordan yesterday.

In the framework of the visit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs had a tête-à-tête meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Mr Ayman Safadi. Extended discussions also took place prior to the meeting with the participation of delegations from both sides.

Developments in the Middle East were at the focus of discussions.

The Foreign Minister acknowledged the decisive role played by Jordan in the efforts made by the country and the Foreign Affairs Minister of Jordan himself to de-escalate and avoid aggravation of the situation.

Mr Constantinos Kombos reiterated the position of the Government of Cyprus, which is based on the unwavering respect of the international law, including the international humanitarian law. He expressed the serious concern of the Republic of Cyprus over the aggravating humanitarian crisis. He also informed his interlocutor on the readiness of Cyprus to contribute immediately and effectively in the creation of a humanitarian sea corridor, in cooperation with other countries, for the relief of civilians in Gaza.

The two Ministers agreed to stay in touch and stressed the urgent need for the creation of the necessary conditions, which will enable the commencement of negotiations for the solution of the Middle East question on the basis of a two-state solution, which will peacefully co-exist, as envisaged in the relevant UN decisions.
