The Minister of Foreign Affairs met with his Serbian counterpart in Belgrade

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Constantinos Kombos, had a meeting today, Thursday 23 November, 2023, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Mr Ivica Dačić, in Belgrade. The meeting took place in the framework of the official visit of the President of the Republic, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, between 22-23 November 2023, to Serbia.

At the meeting, the bilateral relations between Cyprus and Serbia were reviewed and the excellent level of cooperation was reaffirmed. A discussion was also held on Serbia's European course, during which Mr Kombos stressed that Cyprus supports Serbia’s accession to the European Union (EU). Mr Kombos briefed his Serbian counterpart on the latest developments regarding the Cyprus issue and the efforts made by our side for the resumption of talks, thanking his Serbian counterpart for his country’s principled stance on the matter. The Minister of Foreign Affairs was also briefed by Mr Dačić on the developments in the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue, and they had the opportunity to exchange views on a number of international affairs issues, focusing on the latest developments in the Middle East.

In the framework of the visit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs signed, on behalf of the Republic of Cyprus, two Memoranda of Cooperation. In particular, Mr Kombos signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of Science, Innovation and Advanced Technologies, as well as a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Diplomatic Academies of the two countries. On behalf of Serbia, the Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation, Ms Jelena Begović, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Ivica Dačić, signed the Memoranda, respectively.
