Annual Change in Sales -1,3%

In October 2023, the total sales of petroleum products amounted to 130.677 tonnes, recording a decrease of 1,3% compared to October 2022. A decrease was observed in the sales of kerosene (-48,1%), heating gasoil (-33,9%) and light fuel oil (-29,1%). On the contrary, a rise was observed in the provisions of aviation kerosene (13,6%) and marine gasoil (6,5%), as well as in the sales of heavy fuel oil (53,5%), road diesel (4,4%), motor gasoline (3,9%) and liquified petroleum gases (1,7%). As far as the sales from filling stations are specifically concerned, these have registered a marginal increase of 0,3% to 55.192 tonnes.

The total sales of petroleum products in October 2023 compared to September 2023 remained unchanged. Indicatively, the sales of heavy fuel oil increased by 97,0% and the sales of motor gasoline and road diesel decreased by 3,7% and 2,2% respectively, while the provisions of aviation kerosene and marine gasoil remained stable. The total stocks of petroleum products at the end of October 2023 were reduced by 4,2% compared to the end of the previous month.

During the period January – October 2023, the total sales of petroleum products remained unchanged compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

Methodological information

Scope and Coverage

The collection of data on Imports, Sales and Stocks of Petroleum Products is carried out on a monthly basis.

It concerns the sales of petroleum products from filling stations and the sales to government departments, to the British Bases and the United Nations, to ships and to other customers, as well as the stocks held at the end of each month. Only the petroleum companies are being covered. Additionally, the imports of petroleum products imported directly from the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) and the manufacturing industry are also included.

Data Collection

The collection of data is conducted by the Statistical Service on a monthly basis by electronically receiving a purpose-designed questionnaire from each of these companies.
