Political consultations between Cyprus and Italy took place today in Nicosia, at the level of Permanent Secretaries of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries.

Welcoming his Italian counterpart, Ambassador Elisabetta Belloni, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Minas A. Hadjimichael referred to the close relations between the two countries in a number of areas, as well to as their excellent cooperation at the EU and multilateral level.

The two Permanent Secretaries and their respective delegations focused their discussions on the bilateral cooperation, particularly in the field of Energy, developments regarding efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue, and issues high on the EU political agenda, like migration, as well as issues of regional interest, like the Syrian crisis and the trilateral cooperation of Cyprus and Greece with neighboring countries in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Following the consultations, Ambassador Hadjimichael hosted a working lunch in honour of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy and her delegation.
