Joint Statement following the meeting of the President of the Republic with the Turkish Cypriot leader
Special Representative/Deputy Special Adviser to the Secretary General on Cyprus, Ms Elizabeth Spehar, hosted a meeting of the President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader, Mr Mustafa Akinci, today Friday, October 26, 2018, at the Chief of Mission Residence in the United Nations Protected Area.
Following the meeting UNFICYP issued the following Joint Statement:
“SECRETARY-GENERAL’S GOOD OFFICES MISSION IN CYPRUS
NICOSIA, 26 October 2018 – Today the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mr. Mustafa Akıncı, and the Greek Cypriot leader, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, met at the Chief of Mission residence in the United Nations Protected Area (UNPA) under the auspices of Special Representative/Deputy Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Cyprus, Ms. Elizabeth Spehar.
The leaders are pleased to announce that on 12 November 2018, crossing points at Lefka/Aplici and Deryneia/Derinya will be open.
The Greek Cypriot leader, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, and the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mr. Mustafa Akıncı, also had a frank exchange of views on the way forward. They confirmed their readiness to engage constructively with Ms. Jane Holl Lute, who will be visiting the island on 31 October 2018.
