Written statement by the Government Spokesman of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Konstantinos Letymbiotis, on the President of the Republic of Cyprus' visit to New York

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, arrived this morning in New York, where he will attend a dinner with the United Nations Secretary-General, Mr António Guterres, and the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mr Ersin Tatar. The dinner will take place at 19:00 (New York time) at the United Nations Headquarters.

The aim of this meeting is to explore the prospect of resuming negotiations within the framework of the UN Security Council resolutions.

The President of the Republic of Cyprus joins this meeting with a truthful political will for a constructive, fruitful discussion in accordance with international law and the United Nations framework, which will provide a stepping-stone for the resumption of negotiations.

Following the conclusion of the joint meeting, President Christodoulides will make statements to the media.

President Christodoulides will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, Dr Constantinos Kombos, Government Spokesman Mr Konstantinos Letymbiotis, the Negotiator of the Greek Cypriot side for the Cyprus Problem, Mr Menelaos Menelaou, and the Director of the President's Diplomatic Office Mr Doros Venezis.

After the meeting, President Christodoulides will depart for Brussels for the European Council.
