I am incredibly delighted and proud to stand before you today, during this auspicious occasion, as we collectively celebrate the inauguration of the United Aeronautical Maintenance Company Ltd (UAMCO) state-of-the-art facility in the Aradippou Industrial Area.

First and foremost, I would like to extend a warm welcome to Cyprus to all of UAMCO’s guests from abroad, partners, clients and friends, and to wish you a pleasant and fruitful stay in our island.

Your presence here today offers further motivation to our government to continue its efforts towards establishing Cyprus as an attractive international business and tech hub. It also represents another tangible vote of confidence to our country’s potential, which, of course, is much welcomed and appreciated, as it adds value to our economy and positively impacts Cypriot society.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I strongly believe that inaugurations are not merely commemorative events. They can be milestones that shape collaborations amongst companies and nations, in a wide range of areas. I am confident that today’s inauguration ceremony will prove, over the years to come, to be one such milestone, firmly placing Cyprus on the map of the global aviation maintenance industry.

In fact, the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul agreement that has been signed last November by General Electric (GE) Aerospace and UAMCO, will undoubtedly go a long way towards that direction. Through this agreement, the needs of the customers of GE Aerospace for engine maintenance and repair in Europe, Middle East and Africa, will be accommodated by UAMCO. The company’s strategic location in Cyprus, coupled with its high expertise and standards of safety and quality, will contribute towards the reduction of turnaround time for engine maintenance and repairs.

With these thoughts in mind, I would like to say a few words to the one person whose vision and strong commitment and dedication to his country, has made todays’ event possible: Mr John Savvides, UAMCO’s Chief Executive Officer.

Dear John,

You should be very proud for everything you have achieved. Enjoy this moment, because you fully deserve it. Every effort, every hurdle, every challenge you had to face throughout the years, has led to this day. As a member of the government and as a Cypriot, I am proud of your achievements and would like to express our collective appreciation for the fact that you have introduced Cyprus to the world aviation industry. Be assured that all of us at the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry, will continue to actively support your efforts.

I look forward to the next step, that I know you are working on and which is developing a testing of the engines in operation.
