The Ambassador of Cyprus to Poland presents his credentials

The new Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Republic of Poland, Mr Nicos P. Nicolaou, presented, on 13 January 2025, his credentials to the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr Andrzej Duda. 

Ambassador Nicolaou conveyed the warm greetings of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, and expressed a strong commitment to further enhancing bilateral relations between Cyprus and Poland. Highlighting nearly 64 years of diplomatic ties, the Ambassador emphasised the historic significance of the simultaneous accession of both countries to the European Union (EU) in 2004 as a pivotal milestone. He underlined the close cooperation between Cyprus and Poland, particularly as members of the Trio Presidency of the Council of the EU for the period of January 2025 to June 2026 and expressed Cyprus’ full support for Poland’s successful leadership during its Presidency of the Council of the EU in the current semester. Additionally, the Ambassador informed President Duda about the continuing efforts of President Christodoulides for the resumption of talks aiming for the solution of a Bizonal, Bicommunal Federation on the basis of United Nations (UN) Security Council resolutions, and underlined Cyprus’ humanitarian initiatives, such as the "AMALTHIA" humanitarian maritime corridor for Gaza, as well as the trilateral cooperation with Greece and countries of the region to achieve stability in the Middle East. 

President Duda welcomed Ambassador Nicolaou to Poland, extending warm greetings to President Christodoulides and recalling the exchange of visits in 2021 and 2024. He reaffirmed Poland’s support for a solution to the Cyprus issue based on UN Security Council resolutions and congratulated Cyprus on its election to the UN Human Rights Council. President Duda highlighted the growing number of Polish tourists visiting Cyprus and the contributions of the Polish Archaeological Mission. He also emphasised Poland’s responsibility as the Presidency of the Council of the EU, addressing challenges such as the situations in Ukraine and the Middle East, while striving to advance the EU Enlargement process. 

Following the ceremony of credentials, Ambassador Nicolaou laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Warsaw.
