The Minister of Agriculture departs for Brussels
Intensive week for Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment issues
Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Mr. Costas Kadis, departs today for Brussels, where he will participate in the Agriculture and Fisheries Council of the EU, which will take place on 17 - 18 December.
The Agriculture and Fisheries Council will mainly discuss the Austrian Presidency’s Progress Report on the revision of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) beyond 2020, as well as the EU Strategy for the Bio-Economy, which is the strategy that seeks to improve and to strengthen the sustainable use of renewable resources. Agriculture Ministers will also be briefed on how to deal with the disasters suffered by the EU forests last summer and on the need for collective action.
On December 19, Mr. Costas Kadis will take part in the Informal Ministerial Meeting to Address African Swine Fever.
On 20 December, in the framework of the Environment Council, Environment Ministers will discuss the long-term EU Strategy to tackle climate change by 2050. Environment Ministers are expected to adopt a comprehensive position for the LIFE program, the financial instrument for the environment and the climate. In the margins of the Council, Mr. Costas Kadis will hold a meeting with the European Climate Commissioner, Mr. Miguel Arias Cañete.
