Registrations of motor vehicles during January-December 2018
The Statistical Service announces the publication of the report entitled “Registration of Motor Vehicles” for the period January-December 2018.
The main developments during 2018, compared to 2017, were:
(a) The total registrations of motor vehicles increased by 13,3% to 49.450 in January-December 2018, from 43.640 vehicles in the same period of 2017.
(b) Passenger saloon cars increased to 40.683, from 36.067 in January-December 2017, i.e. there was an increase of 12,8%. Of the total passenger saloon cars, 13.126 or 32,3% were new and 27.557 or 67,7% were used cars.
(c) Motor coaches and buses registered in January-December 2018 increased to 211, from 200 in the same period of 2017.
(d) Goods conveyance vehicles increased by 20,0% to 5.275 in 2018, compared to 4.396 in January-December 2017.
Light goods vehicles increased by 21,1% to 4.525 in 2018, from 3.738 in 2017.
Heavy goods vehicles increased by 33,1% to 543 in 2018, from 408 in the previous year.
Road tractors (units of trailers) decreased by 17,2% to 207 in 2018, from 250 in 2017.
(e) Mopeds < 50cc increased by 20,9% to 307 in January-December 2018, compared to 254 in January-December 2017.
(f) Mechanised cycles> 50cc increased by 4,4% to 2.542 in 2018, compared to 2.435 in 2017.
(g) European Union member countries were the main suppliers of motor vehicles in Cyprus during 2018. The EU accounted for 56,6% of the total registrations, while Japan´s share stood at 29,3%.
